FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is "eau de parfum"?

Fragrance sprays will have a certain concentration of fragrant materials present in the liquid along with a carrier material such as perfumers alcohol.  The higher the concentration of fragrance, the stronger the scent is.  Concentration levels are divided into different categories as outlinted below:

  • Eau de Cologne & Body Mist Sprays - Usually these types have around 3-5% concentration of fragrance and often wear off within 2-3 hours.
  • Eau de Toilette: 5-15% concentration of fragrance and often a popular concentration choice due versatility and lightness of the fragrance
  • Eau de Parfum: 15-25% concentration of fragrance and last the longest.

Currently, all Essantier fragrances are of Eau de Parfum concentration and are around 20-25% fragrance concentration.

Why aren't there a suggestion as to whether a fragrance is male or female?

Essantier fragrances are ones that can be enjoyed by everyone regardless of gender.  Instead of making a suggestion, we simply lay out the olfactory notes of a fragrance and the story/theme of the scent and let you decide if it sounds like it is a good fit for you.

Are your products all natural?

This is something we would love to do, however, it would limit our ability to offer a wider range and variety of fragrance profiles .  Even though we offer products that contain some natural oils to produce a specific scent profile, there are a lot of floral and fruit scents that do not have an essential oil counterpart.  For instance, Lilac lacks a true essential oil because both methods for extraction (steam distillation and cold press) end up either destroying the aroma compounds, or fails to capture the true scent of the flower.  Because of this, perfumers rely on synthetically re-creating these scents by analyzing the chemicals that produce the odor vapors in order to reconstruct the scent profile.

The method of synthetically re-creating scents is also used to cut down on costs.  For instance, natural rose oil can be expensive so perfumers have the choice of synthetically creating the scent of rose oil as most roses contain the natural chemicals Geraniol, Citronellol, and Phenyl Ethyl Alcohol.  In addition to cutting down on costs, synthetically creating an odor profile also has the advantage of staying consistent, whereas a natural oil may have slight differences each year depending on the conditions of the plant during the harvest.

I've seen luxury fragrances that cost 10x more than what you offer.  Will I still get a high quality fragrance?

Most of the cost associated with luxury fragrances usually comes from the custom thick glass perfume/cologne bottles and massive amounts of money poured into marketing from TV ad spots, to full page ads in magazines.  Since we mostly advertise by word of mouth and social media, we can keep the cost of our fragrances down while using the highest quality materials possible.
